When I first started looking at ESEE knives, I was really trying to decide between the ESEE 4 and the ESEE 3. I think a lot of you out there are looking for a small, lightweight blade, that can handle some heavy duty utility tasks and maybe you might even call upon the knife to save your life. In my personal opinion large knives are not always the best survival knives, or bush craft knives. When you are really trying to survive, you really want to save calories anyways. You don’t need that Rambo knife from a movie to protect yourself, start a fire, or carry out most other tasks.
All this being said, even now choosing between the ESSE 3 and ESEE 4 is difficult for me. How do I define the ESEE 3?
- It is light enough to EDC
- It has enough carry options for tactical use
- It is thin enough for both bush craft and fast defensive counter-attacks
I’d say the ESEE 3 fits into the category of small, multipurpose utility blade.
